Principal's Message

Dear MCES Families,

I would like to congratulate Hillary Spratlin, MCES teacher of the year, and Connie Sawyer, MCES support person of the year. Both of these ladies were honored at the Madison County Schools Excel Awards event on Tuesday evening. Mrs. Spratlin finished as a top four finalist for the district. We are proud of the work that both of these ladies do for our students every day!!

I am also proud of the hard work that our students have been putting into their classes this year. Our teachers have worked to determine any students who need to make additional progress in reading and math so that they can be receiving more instruction in these areas throughout the school day. Students are using Read Theory in the middle school grades and Lexia in the younger grades for reading. Students in grades 3-8 also have the opportunity to log into Moby Max to receive additional mathematics practice. These are online tools that students can complete at home and at school to receive additional instruction with any concepts that they are missing. Please encourage your child to read at home daily so that we can help students continue to show progress throughout the school year.

If you have a child in second grade, we invite you to join us at the Trick or Read event on Tuesday, October 30 at 6 pm. Students will be able to wear their costumes and participate in literacy focused activities in the gym while parents will learn about some of the tools that they can be using with their child at home. We are excited about this special event!

Veterans Day is around the corner. If you have a family member who is currently serving in the military or is a veteran of the armed forces, please send pictures to Mrs. Cleckler. These photos will be highlighted during our Veterans Day program on Friday, November 9 at 9 am. School will also be closed on Monday, November 12 in observance of the Veterans Day holiday.

We hope to see you tomorrow at the MCES Craft & Vendor Event! We will have vendors, crafters and food trucks from 10-4 and Trunk or Treat from 2-4. Have a wonderful weekend!

Sincerely,

Amy Mason
