Principal's Message

 Dear MCES Families,

It has been a great week for me as I returned to MCES! I thoroughly enjoyed my time at home with my son for the last 10 weeks. I have really appreciated the warm welcome that I have received from all of the students, staff, and parents this week. Mr. Gunnels did a fantastic job keeping the school running smoothly during my absence. Our school has continued focusing on writing instruction and making lots of individual progress in the areas of reading and mathematics. The teachers will be administering the mid-year STAR assessment next week for students in grades 2-8. I look forward to seeing all of the progress that has been made during my absence.

Information went home with students this week in grades 2-8 regarding the 21st Century Gurley Community Learning Center grant. I would like to encourage all of the students in these grades to sign up for this opportunity. Students will have the opportunity to receive after school tutoring help, as well as choosing between a variety of enrichment programs. Please make sure that your child submits their registration forms sometime within the next week.

On Tuesday, December 6, we will also be having our PTA Christmas program at 6 pm. I hope that you will be able to join us on that evening to watch all of the grade level performances that the students have been working on over the last several weeks.

As the semester draws to a close this month, we will be ending our Art program. Mrs. Loyd has done an excellent job working with all of our students in grades PK-8. We will be welcoming Ms. Glover, our new music teacher, during the second semester. She will also be working with all of our students in grades PK-8.

I would also like to send a shout out to Sophia White, one of our eighth grade students, for representing North Alabama and Madison County Schools as a representative on the Alabama State Superintendent's Student Advisory Council. Sophia really made me proud as she exemplified the high quality things that students are accomplishing at our school.

I hope that your families have had a great start to the holiday season and look forward to seeing you in the coming weeks!
